What is dentin?

Dentin is a layer of porous material located underneath the enamel and cementum of the tooth. Dentin is not as hard as enamel, which makes cavities that have spread to the dentin of the tooth more likely to spread and get bigger. Dentin can also be a source of tooth sensitivity, especially when your tooth enamel may be worn down.
