The direct tooth restoration procedure can take only one office visit. Under dental plans, these procedures are often called Basic Restorative Services. Basic Restorative Services are not just limited to fillings, and are considered procedures that are being done to address an established issue.
Indirect tooth restoration involves customized tooth replacements in the form of crowns, onlays, or inlays. The crown, inlays and onlays can be made from a variety of materials such as a combination of metals or porcelain. This procedure will have to take more than one office visit because the inlay or onlay must be made in a lab. Under dental plans, these procedures are often called Major Restorative Services.
